2016 New Year Message
Happy New Year to all of our HDA Members.
We hope that you all have a healthy, happy and prosperous 2016.
2016 is certainly set to be a very important year for us, as your Association evolves to better reflect the healthcare needs of today and the next decade. This is why BAPW, after 25 years of existence is re-launching as the Healthcare Distribution Association UK, or HDA. The Council has taken the decision to create the HDA in order to better reflect the broader range of activity our member companies are engaged in: no longer only providing vital medicines wholesaling services to pharmacists, hospitals and dispensing doctors across the four nations of the UK, they also now also engage in more varied and comprehensive healthcare services to ensure that patients gain access to the treatment they need in the right place, at the right time. Our re-launch is also to better embrace new, more specialised and bespoke health distribution businesses, as innovative practices and technologies make new services possible.
HDA will be aiming to engage all supply chain businesses in a more inclusive and structured way, whether in secondary or primary care. This means understanding the new technologies at play better as well as working with the originators and users of medicines. Over the past decade, BAPW has managed to build some good relationships with the representative bodies up and down the supply chain, and we have been very grateful for this support and the ongoing relationships. Demonstrating that the supply chain partners can work together, whether it be during times of pressure on supplies, or when facing new regulations has proven to be of benefit, especially when explaining our views to governments or regulators.
The next decade will bring ongoing pressures for more efficiencies of course, especially in a publically-funded healthcare system; but more importantly will be the drive towards a more patient-centred healthcare sector, where the patient has more control over how, when and where their healthcare needs are met. Technology and new distribution routes will play their part in this evolution and HDA’s membership must reflect this more personalised future.
From Factory to Pharmacy
As part of our mission to build awareness, understanding and appreciation of the vital importance of the healthcare distribution sector, we developed an infographic explaining the availability of medicines. It identifies the factors that can impact drug supply, as well as the measures that HDA members undertake day in, day out to help mitigate the risks of patients not receiving their medicines.See the Infographic
