MEDIA SUMMARY

Public Policy Exchange: Pandemics and Infection Control
Public Policy Exchange, 10 July, 2017

Public Policy Exchange is hosting a wide-ranging discussion on 6 September 2017 to discuss the current strategies and potential policy gaps in the current pandemic and infection control regime. Many experts currently doubt the capacity of the NHS to cope with a pandemic. The symposium offers a chance for emergency responders, health care providers, local authorities, epidemiologists and other providers and stakeholders to examine the resilience of the current regime and develop improved strategies. More about the conference can be found here, with an itinerary here.

David Barnett, the area general manager Northern Europe at GSK Consumer Healthcare, has been appointed president of Proprietary Association of Great Britain, the UK trade association for manufacturers of over-the-counter medicines, self care medical devices and food supplements.

Barnett (pictured), who takes over at the PAGB from Johnson & Johnson Ltd’s Pat Smallcombe, is familiar with the presidency having occupued that role from 2013 to 2014 while at Novartis Consumer Health.

“I am delighted to have been appointed president of PAGB at such an important time for the consumer healthcare industry,” Barnett said.

“With continued pressure on the NHS, the need to empower people to self care has never been greater; and with EU exit negotiations underway it is vital PAGB member companies come together to ensure our views are well represented.

“I look forward to working with John Smith (PAGB chief executive), the Board and the PAGB team to take forward the excellent work that is already underway to further the self care agenda and respond to the significant changes in the external environment.”
