Gold Standard of Good Distribution Practice

The HDA’s Gold Standard of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) details our members’ adherence to the highest standards of Good Distribution Practice and defines our members’ commitment to providing a sustainable and continuous supply of healthcare.

Patient safety is the guiding mission of the professionals who distribute pharmaceutical products across the United Kingdom. Our Gold Standard of Good Distribution Practice is the embodiment of that mission, and our HDA member companies have signed up to the Gold Standard and made a patient guarantee of safe distribution.

The Gold Standard manual was drafted by the HDA’s Responsible Persons’ Committee, which is comprised of the qualified Responsible Persons from each of the HDA’s wholesaler and distributor member companies. Our document builds upon the European Union’s updated GDP guidelines and is designed to enhance the safety of medicines for patients in the United Kingdom.

It was endorsed and launched by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Quality at the Department of Health, Rt Hon Earl Howe, who noted:

“Full compliance by wholesale distributors with good distribution practice is of prime importance in achieving a safe and secure supply chain. I am happy to endorse this Gold Standard, which will provide an important contribution to the protection of public health.”
